First Nations Land Issues

1.5 hour course presented by Thomas Isaac to learn about aboriginal law from a national perspective with a particular focus on the crowns duty to consult aboriginal peoples and how it may affect your surveying practice! Mr. Isaac will also be discussing the Tsil’cotin case and other recent cases of note and trends, and the First Nations Commercial and Industrial Development Act (FNCIDA).

Thomas Isaac, BA, MA, LLB, LLM
Thomas Isaac is a partner in the Vancouver office of Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt and is one of Canada’s leading authorities on Aboriginal law. Mr. Isaac advises industry and government clients across Canada on aboriginal legal matters. He is a former Chief Treaty Negotiator for the Province of British Columbia and prior to that was Assistant Deputy Minister for the Government of the Northwest Territories responsible for establishing Nunavut. Mr. Isaac is the author of Aboriginal Law: Commentary, Cases and Materials (3 editions) and along with six other books and numerous articles on aboriginal legal matters. Mr. Isaac is a member of the law societies of British Columbia, Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon.
